Offshore TV
With the success of offshore radio stations in many countries attention inevitably turned to the possibility of launching offshore television stations - mainly to challenge or provide an alternative to state monopoly services.
There were many plans for such stations, but due to the enormous costs and more complex technical practicalities of transmitting television from an offshore base most remained no more than dreams. However, a few did manage to make it on the air and one of these (TV Noordzee) became a huge success in its target area of The Netherlands.
This Gallery tells the story of those which made it on air - and those which remained only hopes and dreams.
