Radio London Brides

Radio London Brides was a programme produced in collaboration with Brides magazine and was also a weekly opportunity for advertisers to promote their wedding-related products and services.

First aired on 4th July 1965 the 30-minute programme was  broadcast weekly on Sundays at 2.30pm, immediately before the start of the Fab 40 Show.

Businesses who advertised on the programme were billed as 'specially selected dealers' and were allowed to display a 'Radio London Brides' logo in the window of their premises. This indicated they were an 'approved business', although it is not clear whether there was any actual approval procedure put in place by Radio London.

Part of the programme consisted of a competition with substantial monthly prizes available, either in cash or as cash plus a honeymoon. Entry forms were available in Brides magazine and by visiting the 'specially selected dealers' with the signs in the window.

However, in October 1966,  Mayfair Radio Promotions, who produced the programme, went into voluntary liquidation leaving winners without their prizes - one a quite large one.

After this date Radio London continued to broadcast the show although without the competition segment.

Listeners were also encouraged to write to Radio London to obtain a copy of the booklet 'Fifty Things Every Bride Should Know', written by Brides magazine editor, Jean Tougan. The booklet included enlightening readers on aspects of the marriage ceremony, the honeymoon and their future married life !
