BBMS (Britain’s Better Music Station) -

6th October 1966

Radio Essex changes its name and format to BBMS (Britain's Better Music Station)

30th November 1966

Roy Bates, owner of Radio Essex (by now  known as BBMS), appeared at Rochford Magistrates Court on charges of using an unlicensed transmitter for radio broadcasting at the Knock John Fort. Roy Bates was found guilty and fined, but kept BBMS on the air.

25th December 1966

BBMS closed at about 4.30pm


8th November 1966 Ronald Reagan is elected Governor of California.

16th December 1966  

The U.N. Security Council approves an oil embargo against Rhodesia.
