Many of the commercials aired by Radio Caroline were recorded either in the basement studios of Caroline House, 6 Chesterfield Gardens or by advertising agencies on behalf of their clients. The tapes were delivered to the radio ships for transmission and DJs were required to record a log of commercials played during their programmes. These logs were then sent to the Traffic Department at Caroline House who used them to compile invoices for advertisers (or agencies) to pay.
However there were also commercials which were read out ‘live’ by the on air DJ, giving an immediacy and urgency to the advertisers’ message. Some of these scripts have survived and a few examples are available here.
